There are many places of interest in Central Borneo including areas, museum, monuments and buildings showing the effects that the Islamic Sultanate have had until the 17th century and al of the interesting government structure which have surrounded it including the rulers of Banjarmasin and the original and indigenous people known as the Dayaks which at that time lived in small communities all around the island. There is so much to see in terms of the Central Borneo Places of Interest including Nature reserve of Bukit Tangkiling which is around a thirty minute trip north of Palangkaraya. Also there are very well preserved ancient tools and devises such as the incredible fish traps and other hunting implements. There is also a wealth of temples including Sandung Ngabe which is more of a cultural museum showing ceremonies as well as the societies and their ways.
The Legend surrounding the Batu Banama is interesting as well as incorporating one of the most beautiful areas of the Central Borneo Places of Interest. The story is of a loving mother who became so angry with her naughty child that he hit him hard on the head causing a cut after which he fled on a boat away from the village and traveled the seas. He then eventually unknowingly married his own mother and they both died in a ship which afterwards turned to stone. You will also be able to see the timber industry at Sampit, the largest timber port in Indonesia and indeed one of the largest in the world. The Kualakupuas is also a regency offering Central Borneo Places of Interest where there are water sport facilities including fishing and rafting in natural areas and the gold mines of Batu Api.
